On Saturday 22nd July, the July edition of the Swieqi Kids Rapids was held. The Swieqi Chess Club intends to hold these regularly, possibly monthly.
A decision which worked out well was to split the event into two tournaments, one for Under 12s and another for Under 18s.
Twenty players played the Under 12s and it was a pleasure to see a mix of young age groups and many players at their first experiences in playing a chess tournament.
The level was very good for this age group, and the top places were fought for by a good bunch of very promising players.
Samuel Spiteri deserved to win the July Edition of the Swieqi Kids Rapids with a perfect score. Samuel is still 10 years old, and is a member of the Swieqi Chess Club, playing regularly at the club.
Gabriel Gauci took second place losing only to Samuel, whilst third place was shared between Kyle Sammut and Luigi Borg.
