Swieqi Chess Club beats University Chess Club in 1st CCC event

The Swieqi Chess Club (SCC) beat the University of Malta Chess Club (UMCC) with the score of 32 to 11, in the first match of an initiative by the name of the "Chess Clubs Clashes". The SCC embarked on this initiative to try to revamp the culture of chess clubs in the local chess scene.

The format of the clash consisted of a line-up of 11 players per club, with the players ordered in board numbers (1-11) by rating and players on the same board playing 2 Rapid Games (15 mins +10 secs), and 2 Blitz Games (5 mins +5 secs). Each game (rapid or blitz) counted 1 point, for a total of 4 points per board. All games were transmitted on lichess.org, another first for the SCC.

The SCC won the match comfortably, winning with a good margin in all rapids and blitz games. In round 1 the rapid games ended with a score of 7.5 - 2.5, whilst in round 2 the rapid games finished with a score of 8-3 again in the favour of SCC. In the blitz games it was a similar story, with rounds 3 and 4 being won by the SCC with the scores of 8-3 and 8.5-2.5 respectively. This lead to a final score of SCC beating the UMCC with a total score of 32 to 11.
